Behind the bed shelfs IKEA hack with Hejne

After my family moved into a new house and my husband and his friends put up the bed in our bedroom, space behind it seemed kinda empty and it screamed for something, but I wasn’t quite sure what. That was until I browsed IKEA website and stumbled upon Hejne shelving unit.

Some of you might be shaking your head now, at least those who are familiar with Hejne shelving unit. Hejne is usually used in the pantry, for shelving cans, jars of pickled food stuffs, cookware, etc. That being said, Hejne is also very cheap and modular, like most of the items from IKEA are. Base unit costs just $35, see image down below.

I bought two of these and I also picked up a couple of additional shelves. Shelves can be purchased for $14 a pair. If you think to yourself now, why on Gods green earth did you put this up behind your bed, it looks for ugly. Well I didn’t put it up the way I bought it from the store. My husband picked up some thin cherry HDF panels, cut them up and put them all around the structure of the shelves. This gave it a more solid look and feel. Sadly my room is messy right now and I don’t have any pics to show the end product, but soon I’ll tidy up and update this posts with after pics. For about $150 in materials, I think my behind the bed shelve looks awesome.
